MIAMI (BNO NEWS) — Tropical Storm Lisa formed in the far eastern Atlantic on early Tuesday morning, sources told BNO News, but no land is currently being threatened.

As of 4 a.m. EDT, Tropical Storm Lisa was located about 804 kilometers (500 miles) west of the Cape Verde Island, moving toward the north near 9 kilometers (6 miles) per hour. “This general motion is forecast during the next day or so,” forecaster John Cangialosi at the Miami-based National Hurricane Center said earlier. “A turn to the northwest with a slight increase in forward speed is forecast on Wednesday.”

Maximum sustained winds of the storm increased to 65 kilometers (40 miles) per hour during the morning hours of Tuesday, making it a tropical storm, according to BNO News sources.

“Most of the intensity models show some strengthening during the next few days as the cyclone is expected to remain over marginally warm sea surface temperatures and in a low wind shear environment,” Cangialosi said on late Monday morning.

However, despite the additional strengthening that is forecast, it is unlikely that Tropical Storm Lisa will strengthen into a category one hurricane. According to the most recent forecast models, Lisa will likely start to weaken before reaching hurricane strength.

The National Hurricane Center is expected to start issuing advisories on Lisa at 5 a.m. EDT.

No land is currently being threatened by Lisa.
