trpMcAllen, Texas, Sep 7, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tropical Storm Hermine crossed into the southern part of Texas on early Tuesday morning with a sustained wind speed of 65 miles per hour. The tropical storm made a land fall on Monday at the northeastern part of Mexico before it proceeded towards Texas while it followed a track that held similarity with Hurricane Alex which made its presence felt in the month of June this year.

According to the National Hurricane Center, the focal point of Tropical Storm Hermine rolled over the Rio Grande River by early Tuesday while it was centered around 15 miles in the south-southeast direction of Falfurrias in Texas and at a distance of 65 miles southwest of Corpus Christi. Meteorologist Joseph Tomaselli who is associated with the National Weather Service told reporters that as the tropical storm made ts way into Brownsville, large parts of the area lost power with strong winds as well as torrential rainfall accentuating the unfavorable weather conditions. At the same time, the meteorologist also went on to add that the Rio Grande Valley was preparing itself for the heavy rains as extensive rainfall isn’t required to cause floods in the region.

In the wake of the Tropical Storm Hermine making landfall in Mexico, the authorities undertook all the necessary steps to ensure that any kind of untoward incident can be avoided. It has been reported that as many as 3,500 people were evacuated from in and around Matamoros across the border of Brownville, Texas while the schools in both the ends of the border remained shut.
