Tropical Storm Alex Gaining Strength, Could Push Oil Inland

June 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The gulf coast has taken a very disastrous hit with the oil that is spewing into the ocean and making it’s way to the coast of Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, and other areas, and yet there is even more bad news for the residents which are already dealing with the worst natural disaster in history. Tropical Storm Alex is rushing right towards the gulf, and is expecting to become a hurricane which could push even more oil onto the beaches when it makes it’s way into the gulf.
Along the gulf coast of northern Mexico and south Texas, hurricane watches were in effect yesterday (Monday) as Tropical Storm Alex began to strengthen and head toward the shores of those areas. It is believed that the storm will become a Category 3 hurricane before it reaches landfall sometime later this week.
According to the forecasters, this storm has the potential to push oil from the already catastrophic oil spill into the shores of the effected areas, and to endanger the clean up efforts which are already taking place.
Alex already has sustained winds of 60 mph as it swirls into the Gulf of Mexico, with it’s current path taking it close to the Mexico-Unites States border sometime on Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. It is expected to reach hurricane strength sometime today.
The actual hurricane watches spread about 225 miles south of the United States border and about 100 miles north on the border of Texas. When Alex went through Central America over the weekend, it caused mud slides and flooding that left at least four people dead.
