Travel Alert: Avoid D.C.’s Red Line after train collision

WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — D.C. Metro officials are advising that people avoid the Red Line for the remainder of the day after two six-car Red Line trains collided at around 5 p.m., killing at least 6 people and wounding more than 75.

Trains are operating between Glenmont and Silver Spring Metrorail stations and between Shady Grove and Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail stations for the remainder of the day.

Shuttle buses are operating between Silver Spring and Rhode Island Avenue Metrorail stations to help customers get around the incident.

    I’ll bet money that a large part of the cause of the crash was that at least one of the operators was in a hurry to get home. Most union agreements allow workers to go home when their route is done. So if they get back to the station 20 minutes early, well they get off early. At every workplace people are in a hurry at the end of the day. Paying people to rush so they can leave early it is just asking for trouble. The bus operators have killed dozens of people for the same reason.
