Traffic stop turns to drug arrest in Nassau, NY

NASSAU, NEW YORK (BNO NEWS) – A West Islip, New York man was arrested for possession of drugs after a regular traffic stop, local authorities said Tuesday.

Erikson Dejesus, 28, was pulled over after Troopers Athanasiou and Smith noticed his gray Nissan Murano speeding on the eastbound side of the Southern State Parkway near Eagle Avenue. But a strong smell of marihuana was perceived by the troopers as they approached the vehicle, and Dejesus told the Troopers that he had a bag of marihuana on the back seat.

The bag resulted in a quarter pound of the substance.

Dejesus was arrested for possession of marihuana and for vehicle and traffic violations. His passenger, Raymond Vasquez, 30, was found to be wanted for a parole violation.
