touch Ohio, Jun 16 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a shocking incident, a 6-storey tall statue of Jesus Christ was destroyed when it was struck by lightning. The statue was completely reduced to shambles in a thunderstorm on Monday night, and it was razed to the ground.

Christian believers were shocked by the development, as the statue was one of the iconic landmarks in Ohio. It was made in 2004, and was located at the Solid Rock Church along Interstate 75 in Monroe, just north of Cincinnati. The majestic statue was very aptly called ‘Touchdown Jesus.’ According to the local authorities the statue was struck by lightning at around 11 pm.

The majestic statue was 62 feet tall and was 40 feet wide at the base. The statue was made from plastic foam and fiberglass, which were encased over a steel frame. After the lightning episode, only the steel frame was left of the majestic statue.

According to reports, the fire apparently started from a neighboring amphitheatre. However the only silver lining was that there were no casualties in the mishap, according to the police chief Mark Neu. The financial damage caused by the fire is yet to be ascertained, and it is expected that the fire department would soon make an estimate.
