Tornado warnings in effect as large tornado moves near Valley Park, Mississippi

VALLEY PARK, MISSISSIPPI (BNO NEWS) — Tornado warnings remain in effect as a large tornado is moving near Valley Park, Mississippi on Saturday, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

A tornado warning is in effect for Yazoo County in Central Mississippi which includes the city of Yazoo City, southeastern Issaquena County in West Central Mississippi which includes the city of Valley Park, Southern Sharkey County in West Central Mississippi and North Central Warren County in West Central Mississippi. The warning is expected to expire at 12.30 p.m. CDT, but may be continued if necessary.

The NWS said meteorologists were tracking a large tornado near Valley Park moving northeast at 55 mph around 11.35 a.m. CDT. It said the tornado would be near Valley Park by 11.40 a.m. CDT, near Holly Bluff by 11.55 a.m. CDT, near Tinsley by 12.05 p.m. CDT, near Yazoo City and Little Yazoo by 12.10 p.m. CDT, near Myrleville by 12.15 p.m. CDT and near Benton by 12.20 p.m. CDT.

The NWS urges people in the warning area to take protective action immediately. It described the tornado was ‘extremely dangerous’. “If you are in the path of this tornado…take cover immediately!,” the NWS said.
