Tornado Hits Wadena, Extensive Damage In Albert Lea

tornado4Wadena, June 18, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A devastating tornado led to widespread damage in Wadena and other regions of Minnesota. In the southeast Minnesota, Albert Lea area was heavily affected as many houses toppled and crushed to debris. The tornado killed two people on Thursday as the storm hit the Cenex station in northwest Minnesota. Apart from that the Otter Tail County authorities have reported the death of a woman in Almora.

The tornado ripped off the roof of the Wadena High School and also caused damage to the nearby apartment and the local gas station. Following that the local authorities locked down a major section of Highway 29 in between Alexandria and Wadena.

Reportedly, this weekend was Wadena’s all school reunion and people were all set to attend the parade when the storm hit the town uprooting tress and knocking down many houses in the southwest part of the town. Parkers Prairie Mayor Don Zuehlke told the media that the tornado did massive damage to his farm which is located at the outskirts of the town. Turkey barns of 300 foot were completely destroyed.

In the southeast portion of Minnesota, the tornado caused maximum damage to the farm and the crops. However there wasn’t any reports of death or any injury. Mike Murtaugh, who happens to be the Mayor of Albert Lea told the media that the city shall open it’s National Guard Armory to provide shelter to all homeless whose houses have been destroyed by the tornado.

On the other hand a twister was reported in Winsted but it failed to cause any damage as it passed over a bean field and then slowly took a different course.
