TOPEKA, KANSAS (BNO NEWS) – A Kansas man was sentenced for trying to rob a federal agent, U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch said Tuesday.

Antoine Cardin Williams, 29, of Topeka, Kansas, admitted that on March 26, 2009, he and co-defendant Phillip Tyrone Williams went to a motel in Topeka where they planned to sell crack cocaine and a .38-caliber derringer, not knowing that the buyer was in reality an undercover federal agent.

At the motel, Cardin Williams drew a weapon and held the agent at gunpoint while Phillip Tyrone Williams searched the agent, taking a government-owned SIG 229 duty weapon. Other Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives federal agents then entered the room to aid the undercover agent. Antoine Cardin Williams immediately pointed his weapon at one of the entering agents, but the agent quickly shot him.

Antoine Cardin Williams has been sentenced to 204 months in prison while Phillip Tyrone Williams is scheduled for sentencing on April 12, 2010.
