Los Angeles, Feb 21 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Shrove Tuesday is another name used for Fat Tuesday. The day marks the last day until the Christian ritual of Lenten.

Several activities are used to mark the day. Due to the fact that many Christians will be engaged in some form of fast during the Lent, Shrove Tuesday provides the perfect opportunity to pile in some calories. That fact is not lost in the other name of the day – Fat Tuesday.

The day is marked in English speaking Christian countries around the world like Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, New Zealand and other places like Germany, Belgium, France, Brazil and the Thailand. The mode of celebration differs from place to place but ultimately, the day seems to have the same significance at all the places.

Shrove Tuesday is used by some families to get their last eggs, fat, sugar and flour away because they are among the meals which are restricted by denominations during the Lent.

Countries like the United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and Australia accurately refer to the day as Pancake Tuesday because the cookie is often made most during that day. However in the French tongue, the day is commonly referred to as Mardi Gras.
