Today is National Dog Day!

This day was started for man’s best friend by the Animal Miracle Network 7 years ago, in 2004. The basic intention of the Animal Miracle Network in founding this day was to honor man’s best friend and to remind their owners that dogs need pampering too, and that they shouldn’t be taken for granted.
The Animal Miracle Network officials feel literally that every dog ought to have its day and thus they have designated 26th August as the ‘National Dog Day’. Dogs of all shapes, sizes and of all breeds are honored on this day and pet owners are encouraged to make the day as special for them as possible.
“We wanted to do something special to acknowledge the importance of dogs in our lives. We know most dogs love ice cream — our ‘treat truck tour’ this summer was a big hit — so we decided that giving away free ice cream to all our doggy friends would be a fun way to celebrate National Dog Day, too,” according to Deb Bennet, who is an ardent dog lover and pet owner, and also the spokesperson for Best Friends Pet Care.
