Today is National Coffee Day

National Coffee Day Los Angeles, Sep 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) September 29 is celebrated as the ‘National Coffee Day.’ Coffee is a beverage that is loved the world over for its caffeine-kick, tantalizing aroma and its awesome taste.

Coffee is a brewed beverage prepared from roasted seeds, commonly called coffee beans, of the coffee plant. They are seeds of “coffee cherries” that grow on trees in over 70 countries. It has been said that green coffee is the second most traded commodity in the world behind crude oil.

Due to its caffeine content, coffee can have a stimulating effect in humans. Today, coffee is one of the most popular beverages worldwide.

There are so many different types of coffee, like Breve, Latte, Espresso, macchiato etc. Each has its own distinct identity and taste and a loyal clientele as well.

Many cafeterias are offering special freebies on this gracious day, like ‘Panera Bread’ in Los Angeles. They have a noble scheme on, in which you can gift the second cup of coffee to somebody else.

Coffee has been popularized by a lot of coffee bars and chains all over the world, like Star Bucks, Café Coffee Day, and Barista etc.

It is said that the Ethiopians discovered coffee and it literally means ‘wine of the bean’ in Arabic. Brazil is the largest exporter of coffee in recent times.

In 1583, Leonhard Rauwolf, a German physician, gave this description of coffee after returning from a ten-year trip to the East, “A beverage as black as ink, useful against numerous illnesses, particularly those of the stomach. Its consumers take it in the morning, quite frankly, in a porcelain cup that is passed around and from which each one drinks a cupful. It is composed of water and the fruit from a bush called bunnu.”
