New York, July 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The 7th of July has been set aside as the Chocolate Day. The day has been set aside to celebrate the discovery of the sweet which has over the years become one of the highly consumed items in the world.

According to records, on the 7th of July 1550, the Europeans discovered chocolate. It is often argued that the Europeans found chocolate much later than other regions which had discovered it earlier. Some historians say the cultivation of cacao which is the main ingredient used in the production of chocolate dates back to 1250 B.C. in native Mexico, and the Americas.

The Spanish explorer Hernan Cortes is credited with bringing cacao to Europe. The first time that Cortes tasted chocolate in 1519 in Mexico, he wrote that the drink is “the divine drink which builds up resistance and fights fatigue. A cup of this precious drink permits a man to walk for a whole day without food.”

Eventually, the drink was made in Europe in 1550 and the drink has been enjoyed all over the world since then. There are three days in the year which has been assigned to the chocolate - 9th of February, 7th of July and 28th of October.

Chocolate lovers use the excuse of a Chocolate Day to enjoy their delicacy.
