Oct 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In 1970s the fossils of a dinosaur was excavated in Colorado. They were kept in Los Angeles. Now these fossils have been studied and declared to be that of the smallest dinosaur ever found, which existed over 165-145 million years ago. L.A’s Natural History Museum has decided to display the fossils as a part of their collection. The creature’s skulls, arms, legs and vertebrae have been put on display.
These fossils were studied by Richard J. Butler who belongs to the Bavarian State Collection for Paleontology in Germany. They have been identified to belong to ‘the Fruitadens haagarorum’, generally anticipated to live in North America, who weighted even less than 2 pounds. Also its full growth potential was just 28 inches. Fruitadens belong to the group of ‘Ornithischians’, who generally ate plants. However, the new-found ‘tinosaurs’ has been said to also eat small bugs. This species of the dinosaurs were “very conventional and unspecialized” and could adapt easily, explained experts. A reason why they may have survived this late. The creature got his name because his fossils were discovered in Colorado’s Fruta region.
Creatures which are related to Fruitadens have been found in other parts of the world, like UK, S. Africa, and other countries. The species may have traveled to N. America which shows how the Fruitadens may have evolved in Colorado. These creatures actually lived in an age when all the land was connected together.
The fossils were found quite long back but according to officials, there is so much backlog in the area of dinosaur bones that, the study for this species just got under way.
