New York, May 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Times Square witnessed a temporary evacuation after New York police sealed off a part of the area in Manhattan on Friday. Reportedly, the cops spotted an unattended water cooler alongside a shopping bag in the sidewalk of the area which triggered a bomb alert that made the police evacuate the area on a short notice.
The cops put all traffic on hold and rerouted them as they sealed off the majority of Seventh Avenue for 90 minutes. They had sniffer dogs along with them and also divided the area with yellow tapes. Soon the area witnessed bomb experts dropping by to examine the unattended object. However, upon examination, nothing alarming was found. The area where the bomb alarm was triggered happened to be a busy area mostly crowded with shoppers. The bomb experts employed a robot that went ahead to perform an X-Ray of the cooler and confirmed the substance to be safe and of no threat.
Paul Browne who happens to be a spokesperson for the NYPD told the media that the bomb experts are done with their examination and have concluded that the area is safe. He also thanked all people who have taken the initiative to report the cops about the unattended substance. He also said that in the span of one week the cops have gone through 493 packages which were reported to appear suspicious and might have triggered a bomb alert. Things speeded up and security was tightened after the cops hit upon a car bomb which was speculated to be have been placed by a Pakistani on the scene. Since then Times Square which happens to be the heart of the city is under strict surveillance from the New York Police Department.
