New York, May 2, (THAINDIAN NEWS) New York City’s Times Square found itself amidst a bomb scare once again after a part of it was sealed off by police authorities late Saturday following emission of smoke from a sports car parked in the area. Officials of the New York Police Department responded to the incident immediately and an ‘emergency investigation’ was launched at the scene which was followed by evacuation of the area.
According to reports, a number of police officers soon arrived at the area and entry of vehicles as well as pedestrians in the busy central Manhattan square was blocked soon after as the authorities continued with the investigation. While revealing details about the incident, Paul Browne, a spokesperson of the New York City Police Department revealed to news sources that a vehicles was seen parked in the Times Square with smoke coming out of it. In order to bring the situation under control, a bomb squad is said to have responded and the fire was subsequently extinguished. A firefighter who arrived at the scene soon after described the vehicle as a SUV and added that the car was left at the corner of 45th street and the Seventh Avenue. The firefighter further revealed that a small explosion took place in the car and also validated that smoke was indeed spotted emitting from the car.
It has been reported that inside the vehicle, authorities discovered multiple propane cylinders, cans of gasoline, a powder, few electrical components as well as an alarm clock. Despite the fact that actual motive for the attempted fire bombing is yet to be ascertained, police officials have stated that the incident was indeed a cause of concern.
