Dec.27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tim Masters was the accused person who suffered for almost a decade and bore the dictates of law for a crime which he never committed. Tim Masters was charged and tried for the murder of Peggy Hettrick, who resided in Fort Collins. He was sentenced for a ten year long life-imprisonment in Colorado.
Tim Masters had to take it all until 2008, when the death sentence was vacated and the murder case was reopened, which proved to be a blessing for Tim Masters. The thing which brought about a change in Tim Masters’ almost sealed fate, was the evidence of the DNA test. It proved to be the only succor for Tim Masters, lessening his woes.
The murder of Peggy Hettrick in 1987, which made Tim Masters serve a tenure unfailingly is a glaring example which shows that laws which are supposed to protect us can make or break one’s life. Bill Ritter, the governor, had claimed that a person wrongly convicted will be compensated economically, laws should definitely look after the interests of Tim Masters and he will be meted out with the required treatment he deserves.
Bill Ritter had emphasized how the judicial system should be fair enough in protecting the rights of criminal defendants. The question arises of how can financial compensation prove to be enough to redo the past of a person’s life, who suffered for all the wrong reasons. The mental agony he went through, those precious years of his life which could have been fruitful for him, will never come back.
