ANCHORAGE (BNO NEWS) — A three-year-old boy from Anchorage was killed on Friday when he found a gun and accidentally shot himself, police said.

The incident happened around 9.15 a.m. local time at a home on Loretta Lane in Anchorage, when the child and his father - who was identified as 28-year-old Timothy Joseph - were at home.

“The child somehow gained access to a gun inside the house and it accidentally discharged, killing the child,” said Anita Shell, a spokeswoman for the Anchorage Police Department.

The child’s mother - who was identified as 44-year-old Karee Ann Joseph - was not home at the time of the shooting but was notified shortly after the incident. Both parents were brought to the Anchorage Police Department headquarters to provide statements.

The Anchorage Police Department’s Crime Scene Team was called to the scene along with detectives who are conducting an investigation into the shooting death.

No charges have been filed at this time.
