Irish clover Savannah, Ga, Mar 17 (THAINDIAN NEWS) WSAV News 3 On Your Side presented a live stream(embedded below) of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade for those who could not make the event this year. The parade is, of course, an annual event, but this year’s parade was the largest they have ever had, and quite a lengthy one.

This kicks off the 186th annual St Patrick’s Day celebration in Savannah, Georgia, which is cited to be the second largest St Patrick’s celebration in the world. Thousands of people come from all over the world to witness the event, which not only features the parade, but the turning on the river green, when they pour food coloring into the Savannah River, and a huge celebration occurs on Savannah’s famous “RiverStreet.”

According to the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade Website the parade and celebration is in honor of Saint Patrick’s dedication to Christianity. It is said that St Patrick used the shamrock to explain the trinity to unbelievers. He told them of how God is one God in three persons. Patrick would hold up a shamrock and challenge his hearers, “Is it one leaf or three?” “It is both one leaf and three,” was their reply. “And so it is with God,” he would conclude.

Parade watchers were lined up at dawn, positioning themselves around the crowd barricades which were in place for the first time this year. The celebration which began in 1824 is the largest tourist attraction of the year for Georgia’s oldest city and former capital. A beautiful city brimming with historical sites, Savannah is one place that should definitely be on everyone’s “must see” list. A visit to Georgia is not complete until you have seen the city, and felt it’s history. I know firsthand, I used to live there and continue to stay close to the magic that is Savannah.
