San Diego, Jan 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a straight-from-the-script adventure, a prisoner escaped by stealing a fire engine. Prison officials at the San Diego jail says the inmate escaped when he stole a fire engine belonging to the prison on New Year’s Day.

Officers say 51-year-old Thomas Kelley was jailed for car theft last November. He is still on the loose and an intensive search has been commenced to take him back to prison. He was at the minimum security area near the Mexican border when he escaped. He had been working with the prison firefighters while he was in jail.

Prison officials never saw Kelley leave the facility. The only realized that he was missing last Sunday but it was a report from sheriffs nearby which confirmed that he as indeed escaped with a fire engine.

Sheriffs say they stopped Kelley when they saw him driving the fire engine erratically. However before they could arrest him, Kelley managed to escape and has since not been captured.

This is not the first time that Kelley has stolen a car. He has already been convicted on a previous charge and last November, Kelley was jailed for traffic violation. The police have urged the public to volunteer information.
