New York, May 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Roads near to the Manhattan’s Union Square and parts of an apartment building located close to the spot were evacuated by the police authorities in New York after alleged reports of gas being found in the back seat of a vehicle parked near the Union Square. However police have reported that nothing in the vehicle posed threat to life. The vehicle was a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera and the authorities have also traced the owner of the vehicle that was parked in the area at around 10 pm at night.
The owner of the vehicle has also come up with an explanation explaining his innocence to the New York police. He says that the gas cans were in his vehicle because he uses them to mow lawns and his vehicle was parked near the Union Square because he was at the Buzzcocks concert being held nearby. An employee of the Con Edison building close to which the vehicle was parked on Thursday night had immediately dialed 911 on locating the gas cans on the back seat of the vehicle and the bomb squad too reached the spot in a short while.
However nothing worth fearing about has been seen so far. The city has been in a skeptical state of mind ever since the gasoline and propane loaded vehicle was spotted at the Times Square on the 1st of May few weeks back. The Union Square is a very busy part of the city with a number of pedestrians frequenting the area. With rampant terrorist attacks taking place in the country, it is but natural for the common man and the police to be apprehensive of situations.
