quakeHaiti, Jan 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Thousands of Haitians sat on the devastated streets asking for help on Wednesday. Many of them were trapped in the rubles of devastation and were uncertain of their lives and prayed to god for protection. It is difficult to guess how many perished or survived in this devastation and how many bodies lay in the debris of thousands of buildings.

The National Palace collapsed, the headquarters of the U.N. peace keeping mission crumbled. According to Paul Conneally, an International Red Cross spokesman, almost 3 million of Haitians must have been badly affected. He says it will take time to get a clear picture of the incident. This certainly will put back the already weak economy of the country by some degrees.

A source said 10 Chinese peace keepers were missing and 8 were dead. A girl who was about 16, stood on a car and tried to figure out whether her family is safe while several men searched the debris of the house. A woman covered with grime made a way out of the dilapidated buildings and was crying with pain. Shocked people held hands and wandered helplessly on the streets. Some sang hymns in public squares. This is for sure that thousands of people lost their homes.

Some nations, along with the United States has started thinking about relief. They are alerting people and providing supplies that the affected victims will need urgently. The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere needs support. International Red Cross is planning to provide aids. Hope the country will soon see light of hope and will come out of this tragic incident that has shaken the nation.
