May 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Every American teen dreams of a perfect prom night. For Erica DeRamus, the dream was shattered at the wrong time for the wrong reasons. The perfect prom night dress for Erica DeRamus turned too hot to handle for the school authorities. The online purchase was a tutu styled dress with a bejeweled bodice and sea-foam colored frock. The school authorities found the dress too revealing and violating the school’s dress code. Erica DeRamus was kicked out of the prom and suspended for three days.
For students of Oxford, Alabama the dress code implies necklines that do not go below the breast-bone, and skirt hems not higher than 6-inches above the knees. The principal of the school Trey Holloday said that the rule was for protecting the students, not managing them. Of the 352 students who attended the prom, 18 were caught for violation of the dress code. Erica DeRamus said that she was extremely excited for prom night because it was senior school prom. She also said that the school needed to treat the senior students with more respect. According to her, it wasn’t the 1940’s that they will be given corporal punishment and have strict dress codes.
Erica DeRamus’ mother was supportive towards her daughter and slammed the school authorities for ruining her prom night. The teen was furious when the authorities rejected her dress for excess cleavage. She explained that if it actually was too revealing, she wouldn’t have bought it for her prom night. She said she will continue to appeal against the judgment of the school authorities of Oxford, Alabama.
