The Onion spoof ‘The New York Times’
April 26th, 2011 - 8:51 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York City, April 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Onion has got a high profile victim on its list of ‘fooled’ news outlets. The New York Times fell for a story carried by the fake news headliner when it published a picture of a fake back cover of Tiger Beat showing the Jonas Brothers and President Barack Obama.
The Times realized the mistake and recently published a rejoinder. The spoof headline was published in the 17th of April issue of the newspaper. In that edition of the newspaper, the Jonas Brothers were shown with President Obama on the right side with the inscription “I sing in the Shower.”
The newspaper on Sunday made a publication acknowledging that it erroneously carried out a story without fact-checking. The admission is undoubtedly embarrassing for the highly reputed newspaper. It has brought to the fore the debate on the contents that are published in the news media.
The Times is not the only news outfit that has fallen for the prank of The Onion. FOX Nation in a recent publication picked a fake story titled ‘Frustrated Obama Sends Nation Rambling 75,000-Word E-Mail.’
