universityJan 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Lake Superior State University in Michigan has come up with a list of compiled words which they thought fit to be banished. If we turn back to the pages of history, it can be traced that a PR person, named Bill Rabe, of the public university released a list of nine banished words which included ‘detente’ and ‘macho’. It is considered to be the first list. The criterion by which the words are included in the list depends on the ‘mis-use, overuse, and over uselessness’ category.

The words that become a part and parcel of everyday life reflect the changing time also, but sometimes the use of certain words clash with our culture and lifestyle. The Lake Superior State University has declared some words which are being discarded after considering various spheres like marketing, media and communication and the technological arena. The word tweet has been done away with and any term associated with the word ‘tweet’ like ‘tweetaholic,’ ‘twitterhea’ have also made it to the list. A few other words which found a place in the list are ’sexting,’ ‘bromance,’ ‘app.’

The words that are being used at a time when the world is eclipsed by the recession blues, such words made it to the list; like ‘bailout,’ ‘toxic assets,’ which were also discarded previously across the world. The inputs given by people from all over the world have been taken into account. Any derivatives or prefix attached to the name of the American President Obama were not encouraged at all and were included in the list.
