firstWashington, Feb 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Although Marian Robinson, mother of the First Lady, Michelle Obama initially was not so sure about moving to Washington, she apparently has settled right in and made herself at home.

President Obama shared that, partially because she has lived in Chicago all of her life, she was reluctant about moving to a new place, much less The White House! President Barack Obama said that the family simply asked her to try it for three months, and if she liked it, she would stay. It has been a year now, and Marian has stayed. And not only has she stayed, but President Obama is calling her, “Quite the lady about town.”

Even though her first priority is to care for her granddaughters, Malia, 11 and Sasha, 8, she also takes time for herself, making friends in Washington D.C. She has remained anonymous enough that she can take the girls to and from school everyday, visit The Kennedy Center to watch the shows there, and pretty much walk out the gates and go whenever and wherever she wants. Michelle and the President like this fact, but are a bit envious of her freedom.

Mrs. Robinson has a third floor bedroom in The White House, while her daughter’s family lives on the second floor. She also eats away from the family often so that they can have time together without the “mother-in law.” She was at the annual Easter Egg Roll, a dinner for the Prime Minister of India,(a black tie dinner) as well as others. She lost her husband, Frasier in 1991, but did a solo appearance during the summer to read storybooks to elementary kids. She told these children that her life was wonderful and that The White House was much bigger than anything she had ever been accustomed to.”

According to the President, Mrs Robinson has befriended Former President Bill Clinton’s personal secretary, Betty Currie, and they both enjoyed watching the Alvin Ailey dance troupe perform from the President’s box in the Kennedy Center.

“Pretty soon, she’s going to come up and say,”You know I can’t pick up the kids. I have to much going on!” Michelle Obama joked.
