The face in the Shroud

March 31, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): History channel will show the real face of Jesus in its documentary about the 3-D analysis of the Shroud of Turin so it claims. The image was created by taking information and blood encoded on the Shroud of Turin, the blood-stained linen that many believe was the burial cloth of crucified Jesus Christ and transforming it into a 3D image.
Ray Downing computer and, President of Studio Macbeth, the group that created the image, said “Is this the artifact of a real person or not? Definitely it is.” Commenting further on how these images have been created, Downing said that “We ‘lifted’ the blood and isolated it (on computer) so that it would sit ‘in air’ (on a transparent background),He explained that because the Turin Shroud was wrapped around, rather than being draped on the body, the blood was transferred to the cloth as it was wound. Therefore it did not align with the places on the face from which it originated. The yearlong project culminated with a team of graphic artists using the newest technology to create a computer generated image.
The ancient shroud contains a faint impression of the front and back of a human body, along with blood, dirt and water stains.
As far as marketing for the documentary is concerned, History Channel could not have asked for a better time as its happening just around Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the Christian holy days that mark Jesus’ death and resurrection.
