Mary Kay Letourneau, also known as Mary Katherine Schmitz, registered as sex offender for life has married Vili Fualaau, the student that she had an affair with, giving birth to children by him. She has been convicted of statutory rape and has served some years in prison.
The couple first met when Fualaau was in the second grade and had a sexual relationship when he turned 12. She was then a 34 year old married mother of four and taught at Shorewood Elementary School in Burien, Washington. When the news became public she was pregnant with Fualaau’s child at the time of arrest and served six months in prison with the rest of her seven years suspended. Meanwhile she gave birth to his daughter Audrey Lokelani Fualaau in 1997. Within weeks of her release from jail she was seen having sex with Fualaau again in her car and had to serve the rest of her sentence. She delivered their second child
Georgia Fualaau while in prison. She had left her husband and children by then. After she was released Fualaau appealed to have the no-contact order lifted and after the request was granted they married on May 20, 2005. He was 21 years of age at the time of the wedding. They married in the Seattle suburb of Woodinville in a ceremony at the Columbia Winery, in a ceremony that received wide media coverage.
Mary Kay Letourneau now goes by the legal name Mary Fualaau. She has expressed a desire to have another child and return to her teaching profession.
