London, Feb 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) About 20 authors have been shortlisted by the judges in the race to win £30,000 in the competition Text Speak Short Story. The winner of the competition will be announced on the 30th of March.

Hundreds of entries were received from the authors all over the world. The list was then trimmed down to 20 and it will further be reduced to six on the 4th of March. The grand winner will then be picked from that list. The losing entries will each receive £1,000.

The judges of the competition are actor Ian Hart, Hanif Kureishi and Lord Bragg. During a chat on the entries which were received for this year’s contest, Lord Bragg explained that, “The most striking thing about the haul of entries this year was the wide range - not only in geography but also, and perhaps consequently, in subject matter.”

Some of the shortlisted authors and their titles are Will Cohu - Two Bad Thumbs; Diana Athill - A Hopeless Case; Evgenia Citkowitz - Business Class; Barrie de Lara - Dinner at Benuttis; A L Kennedy - Late in Life; Toby Litt - The Sandy; Robert Minhinnick - El Aziz: Some Pages From His Notebooks; and Alison MacLeod - The Heart of Denis Noble
