College Station, Texas, Oct 29, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The main campus of the Texas A&M University was shut down on Thursday after it was suspected that an armed man was at large inside the campus while former United States president George Bush Sr. and his family was present. The university authorities took the decision of partially locking down the campus and triggering an alert system throughout the campus after a bus driver reported that he had spotted a man carrying an AK-47 inside the campus. However, after a thorough investigation was undertaken, authorities reiterated that there was no danger as the person who was seen by the driver did not pose a threat as he was carrying a replica weapon.
While talking about the incident, Lane Stephenson, a spokesperson of the university stated that a ‘Code Maroon’ was issued by the emergency notification system to intimate students and staffs to stay indoors while the search to nab the suspect was carried out by the authorities. However, later it was found out that the suspected gunman was a member of the military cadet corps of the university and the weapon that he was carrying was a non-firing replica.
The incident created all the more buzz as just two miles from where the suspected gunman was seen, Texas A&M University was gearing up to welcome U.S. President George Bush Snr, his wife Barbara, who were holding an event for their daughter-in-law former first lady Laura Bush. Officials have revealed that after half an hour following the incident, things came back to normalcy inside the university campus.
