keele Mar 10 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A thirty nine year old woman from Tennessee has plead guilty to forgery and 8 counts of theft after faking breast cancer to get “sympathy money” from her job, churches, and others. She also received many vacation days while she was supposedly undergoing cancer treatments. It is estimated she was given thousands of dollars worth of sick leave from her job as a city employee for the city of Chattanooga, but Defense Attorney Stuart Brown and the prosecutors are still debating the exact dollar amount these vacation days were worth. The forgery charge comes from her acceptance of sick leave days from her co workers who showed pity for her plight.

Keele Maynor plead guilty on Tuesday in state court. A Chattanooga court adjudicator has set the sentencing date for May 17. Hamilton County Criminal Court Judge Don Poole allowed Maynor to remain free on bail until sentencing, according to WRCB-TV. The defense attorney, Stuart Brown stated that Maynor will serve no more than six years for her crime.

Maynor has refused to comment since she suddenly left her job at the Chattanooga Land Improvement Office. After quitting work in 2008, she revealed in an email that she had lied about having breast cancer. Her scam lasted over 5 years and it is estimated that she received around $60,000 from the city as well as about $27,000 from other charities.
