Teen Suspect To Earn $50,000 On Surrender
June 4th, 2010 - 7:52 pm ICT by Pen Men At WorkJune 4, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Has any criminal ever thought of earning huge money by surrendering to the police? Probably not, but this has happened to Colton Harris-Moore, known as the Barefoot Burglar, a teen suspect in multiple burglaries across state lines and Canada.
An anonymous donor has reportedly announced a whooping amount of $50,000 for the teen suspect if the 19 year old Harris-Moore agrees to surrender to the police by next week. He has given the teen suspect an opportunity to come out of the hiding and to face legal issues against him. Moore is running from the police for more than two years.
Mike Rocha and an Edmonds, Washington defense attorney, an Everett, Washington bounty hunter and James Johanson, have made this announced on behalf of the anonymous person.
Confirming the authenticity of the offer, Everett bounty hunter Mike Rocha informed that the money is safely kept in the trust account of attorney James Johanson.
Since April 2008, Colton Harris-Moore has been on the run. He ran off from a group home south of Seattle in 2008. The teen suspect carries the charge of breaking into homes and businesses in five Washington counties, British Columbia and Idaho. Police also suspect him of taking four planes, luxury cars and the power boats illegally.
Johanson assured that the offer isn’t a ploy to arrest the teen suspect. The ethical rules of the lawyers would stop any such deceptive offer. He further added that he is ready to represent the teen suspect for free and Colton can keep the money.
Johanson added, “Colton might be tired of running from the police and is probably scared and not sure whom to believe. But, he needs to trust someone now, though his legal problems are insurmountable.”
According to Rocha, Colton is finally going to be in police custody anyway, so its better if he surrenders on his own terms and take the reward money to get legal help.
It wouldl be interesting see if the teen suspect comes out of hiding to surrender and take the money!
