abby Los Angeles, Jun 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Teen sailor Abby Sunderland has finally been reunited with her family. Her parents have however blasted the critics who spoke about their 16 year old daughter’s solo sailor attempt around the world, in a negative manner.

Abby’s parents – Laurence and Marianne Sunderland said that they were shocked at the response of the people regarding their daughter’s solo sailing attempt. They issued a statement, which said that, “We’ve also been exposed to intense personal criticism by people who don’t know us. Most have not even met us. To hear the intensity of the personal hatred spewed by some in the media and on blogs was shocking to us. It crossed the line of human decency.”

The statement also added that their 16-year-old daughter Abby shouldn’t be the victim of hurtful and negative attacks. They also wanted that nothing should be presented out of context, and the facts should also be presented in their own totality.

The sailing fraternity had seemed to be up in arms against Abby, and they had questioned the intelligence behind sending her on a solo attempt, all around the world. The Los Angeles Times sports columnist T.J. Simers had even gone so far as to say that her parents were indulging in ‘child abuse’ by allowing her to sail solo around the world.
