Los Angeles, Dec 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The English language just had one word added to it “Tebowing.” According to ABC News, that means “the act of taking a knee in prayerful reflection in the midst of an athletic activity.”

The Global Language Monitor (GLM), a Texas-based firm involved in recognizing and adding new words to the English vocabulary, announced on Monday that because tebowing has been used so much, it has now reached the criteria where it needs to be recognized as an official word. A similar criteria was used by the firm in 2008 to add the word “Obamamania.”

In a statement released by the president and chief word analyst at GLM, Paul JJ Payack, said that, “Sports have become significant generators of new cultural trends and memes that transcend the athletic arena.”

According to estimates of GLM, about 1.58 billion people around the world use the English language as a mode of communication. The firm recently released the top words, names and phrases that have been used more frequently since the beginning of the year.

The list of top names is led by the late Apple founder Steve Jobs while “Arab Spring” and “occupy” were recognized as the top phrase and top word respectively.
