Mar 15 (Pen Men at Work): A school teacher in Alaska was mauled to death by pack of wolves. Attacks by wild wolves, rather than wolves kept as pets, are extremely rare and this could be first death due to attack by wolves in US in last five decades.
Candice Berner, 32 was an avid jogger apart from being a school teacher. Her badly mauled body was found in pool of blood and multiple wolf tracks. Experts say that Berner may have been attacked because she was on her period. Wolves who are able to sense this with their strong sense of smell attack for this reason.
Locals have expressed their concern about wolf sighting in and around the area. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game plans a special meeting to hear their concerns.

No, Diane, actually it is menstruating. A little class involves spelling correctly. Have a nice day.

No kiddding. Did a 13 year write this? This is the same state that Sara Palin comes from.

hello dmf
is that spelled dicktionary? should I get a small dictionary or a large dicktionary???

dear dmf and mrs. diamond:
it seems to me that you are missing the point. do you prefer the terms: “on her period” or, perhaps: “on the rag” to the term menstruating?
oh- and have a nice day - you people keep proving my point.

It seems someone else is “ON THEIR PERIOD” Diane. By they way I was agreeing with you and not the author of the article. I would draw a picture but this comment section only accepts text and crazy people it would seem. I never comment on these articles and when I do I this is what I get. Serves me right.

by they way or is it the way way - you are right only idots, crazy people, jerks, and loosers write comments. did I get it right? guess you got what you expected.
what did you write in agreement?

More likely a bear mauling, the wolves may have encountered her body after the attack which is why the footprints were noticed. Highly unlikely a wolf pack would seek out a human prey.

My heart goes out to the teachers family. We must learn to respect nature and the cicle of life. If we could learn to live in harmony with the wildlife we could avoid these types of accidents. Predatory animals are exactly that predators and they hunt for survival. The do not care if you are a rabbit or a woman jogging they are looking for the easiest opportunity for food. If you place yourself in their environment you become prey. If you choose to be in their environment you are living in their world and are subject to the law of nature “the strong survive” We have to stop blaming the predators when we enter their domain, we have to be responsible and sometimes pay the ultimate price for choosing to be a part of their world.

No freak accident. Joe is correct. Those dmf who cannot remember history are condemned to repeat it.
March 16th, 2010 at 6:51 am
O.K. we will give Joe credit, it may also be called being “eaten alive”. As previously stated when you put yourself in the position of “prey” in a predatory world you are taking your chances. Historically speaking we have and unfortunately will most likely continue to repeat our horrific treatment of wildlife. The wolves will be blamed for doing what it is that wolves do and will probably be hunted down and executed. Because that will take care of EVERYTHING!

May I take this opportunity to apologize - instead of taking offense at the wording in the article, I should be offering my condolences to the family. I sincerely apologize. Regardless of the “copy” in the article, or, even which animal is responsible, the woman lost her life, and I wish to offer my sympathy.
