TAMPA, FLORIDA (BNO NEWS) – A 3-year-old child died outside a church after she was found unconscious inside a parked vehicle after her uncle left her in the car while he attended church services, the Tampa Police Department said on Monday.

On Sunday evening, a 25-year-old man drove three of his minor cousins to the Ebenezer Baptist Haitian Church in Tampa. The driver and two of the children, aged 12 and 1, got out of the 1994 Nissan Pathfinder and entered the religious building.

A 3-year-old girl was left in the vehicle during mass. When the service was over, the cousin found the child unconscious inside the compact SUV. She had been inside of the vehicle for about an hour and a half. She was rushed inside the church and was administered CPR. The Tampa Fire Rescue transported the child to Tampa General Hospital where she was pronounced dead. Her cousin was also admitted due to stress caused by the incident.

An investigation was launched to clarify the events and is currently ongoing. An autopsy will be performed to establish the cause of death. It’s unclear if charges will be brought against the man.
