Taliban Leader Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Taken Into Custody

Washington, Feb 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, one of the top Taliban leader has been taken into custody in Karachi, sources have revealed. The Taliban leader, who is the chief of the outfit’s military wing, was captured in a joint operation that was carried out by the United States forces as well as the Pakistani intelligence agencies.
According to certain reports, after being captured the Taliban leader is currently being detained in Karachi, where authorities have been questioning him. Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar’s arrest is being perceived as a significant breakthrough owing to the fact that he is considered to be among the most senior leader’s of the terrorist group. At the same time, authorities have also reiterated that the capture of the Taliban leader might provide them vital links to nab other prominent leaders of the outfit- including the top Taliban leader Mullah Muhammad Omar, who has been underground since the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. Although it has been stated that the Pakistani and the U.S. forces have been interrogating the Taliban leader for few days now, it is yet to be ascertained whether Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has started revealing vital details.
Meanwhile, the news of the capture of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has been confirmed by a senior Taliban official from the South Afghanistan region. Moreover, it has also come to light that the operation that led to the capture of the Taliban leader was undertaken by Pakistan’s military spy agency ISI, with help from the CIA operatives. The newspaper which first cracked the news of the Taliban leader’s capture supposedly got the information on Thursday, but did not report it immediately on request by White House officials.
