Jan 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Captain Owen Honors was sacked from the USS Enterprise on Tuesday. For over three years he had served as the captain of the nuclear powered aircraft carrier. He was fired after it was discovered that he had made lewd videos, with the intention to boost the morale of other crew members. The videos contained foul language, anti-gay slurs and sexual innuendo.
Captain Owen Honors, made these videos at the time he was serving as Executive Officer aboard the Navy vessel in 2006 and 2007. Until yesterday, the videos were not made public. As this was found out, he was fired by US Fleet Forces Commander Navy Adm John C Harvey Jr yesterday. John C Harvey, while announcing his decision to sack the captain, told the reporters of Norfolk, Virginia that the responsibility of any Commanding Officer for his or her command is absolute. Captain Owen Honors remained the commander of the USS Enterprise for around 7 months. John C Harvey also said that although Captain Owen Honors’ performance was good, but his lack of professionalism and good judgment calls his character into question and totally undermines his credibility to continue serving as the Commander effectively.
In spite of such videos, there are sailors who spoke in his defense. Misty Davis, one of the officers on board claimed Captain Owen Honors to be a very caring professional, having a good sense of humor. According to a very popular source, Captain Owen honors is also reported to be the best Navy officer. Captain Owen Honors was reassigned to the administrative role while the Navy re-investigates the videos so as to find out what other crew members of the ship had to say about them.
