Taconic Car Crash Drunk Mom: A ‘High’ To Die For?
August 5th, 2009 - 4:04 pm ICT by GD
Arguably the worst automobile tragedy in Westchester County in the past seventy-five years, the head-on collision between a Chevrolet trailblazer that was struck straight-on by a ford minivan full of kids below the age of ten, that had been coming the wrong way, killing eight people, mostly the kids on the Taconic State Parkway on July 26th, has now received a new and disturbing twist with the simple but shocking explanation for the tragedy emerging as the fact, that Diane Schuler, the mom driving the minivan, was high.
According to the toxicology reports that have been released on Tuesday, the autopsy performed on Schuler, showed extremely high alcohol levels as well as suggestions of psychotropic drug ingestion.
Reportedly, Schuler’s blood alcohol level was 0.19 percent, way higher than the prescribed limit, with six grams of alcohol actually found unmetabolied in the stomach, with detections of 113 nanograms of THC (a psychotic substance that is the main content of marijuana) per milliliter, suggesting the usage of the narcotic in the proximate past, an estimated 15 minutes to an hour before the fatal crash. Also, according to recent updates on the investigation, a shattered 1.75 liter bottle of Absolute vodka was found in the wreckage, though it is unclear if Schuler had been drinking from it at the time of driving.
According to statements made by toxicology authorities, the level of intoxication that Schuler seems to have been under, would have expectedly compromised her peripheral vision, perception, powers of judgment and could have as easily impaired her driving ability, a fact that maybe now explains the wrong-side driving error that resulted in the deadly crash.
