Suspicious package cleared at The White HouseApril 10th, 2009 - 10:06 am ICT by admin
WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) — A suspicious package was cleared about an hour after it caused some members of the media to be evacuated from the White House, a Secret Service spokesman told BNO News on Thursday.
“There’s an unattended bag on the north fence line of the White House [..] they moved all media off the North Lawn and it’s closed to pedestrian traffic at Pennsylvania Avenue,” the spokesman earlier said.
About an hour later, at 4.30 p.m. local time, it turned out not to be a threat. “It was nothing of protective interest. In matter of fact, the person who left it behind came back and claimed it. It was just inadvertently left there by mistake,” he told BNO News in a phone call.
The D.C. Metropolitan Police Department, the fire department, the U.S. Secret Service and other agencies were all on scene to deal with the incident.
