Suspected 88 year old Nazi indicted in Germany
July 29th, 2010 - 8:51 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattBerlin, July 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An 88 year old German - Samuel Kunz has been finally charged with participating in the killing of 430,000 people, particularly Jews.
Kunz has survived a trial, because it was argued that he only served as a low ranked guard in some of the death camps of the Nazis. Kunz served as a junior rank guard in some of the famous camps where several Jews were slaughtered. The German authorities maintained until now that they would ignore minor Nazi figures.
But in April, Kunz was named as the third most wanted Nazi suspect in the world by the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
Kunz was charged after new generation of German prosecutors decided to chase all the other Nazi suspects. Prosecutors say they recently chanced upon Kunz’s case when they were reviewing the files of another Nazi suspect, 90 year old John Demjanjuk. Authorities say Demjanjuk and Kunz were both trained as Nazi guards at Trawniki.
Kunz has some serious questions to answer because he is also charged with killing 10 Jews in different incidents.
He will continue to remain free at his home in Bonn because authorities believe he will not try to escape, mostly due to his age. Kunz declined to comment on the charge.
