Suspect Barry Sayavong Arrested In California Student President Hate Crime Case

Chico, California, Apr 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Chico State University’s student president was attacked on Sunday morning and was stabbed multiple times near the university campus. The incident which is speculated by the police authorities to be a hate crime, has sent shock waves among all the students of the university. The student body president of the university, Joseph Igbineweka was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility following the incident.
Police authorities have claimed that after preliminary investigation, a suspect, Barry Sayavong has been taken into custody in the case. The 19 year old suspect was detained by the authorities after persons who were supposedly present at the site of the incident were able to identify Barry Sayavong as the culprit who carried out the heinous crime. While revealing details about the incident, Chico police Sergeant Rob Merrifield has stated that Joseph Igbineweka was stabbed a number of times by the culprit while he was taking a walk near the university campus in a neighborhood which is mostly inhabited by university students. The culprit was hurling racial abuses at the student body president while stabbing him, according to reports. Following the incident, Joseph Igbineweka is said to have sustained injuries in his stomach, neck, chest and arm. Several police officers were supposedly present in the area and reached the site of the crime as soon as they were alerted.
A spokesperson of the university has divulged that after receiving preliminary treatment, Joseph Igbineweka is in a stable condition. Meanwhile, authorities have revealed that after Barry Sayavong was arrested, charges such as attempt to murder and hate crime have been levied against him.
