The attack which was recorded by an employee of McDonald’s went on the Internet and has since gone viral.
McDonald’s say the employee who videoed the incident is no longer working with the restaurant. The video showed the two teenagers beating up the victim. The victim has been identified as Chrissy Lee Polis. Her mother says she was attacked because of her gender, insinuating that the attack was hate crime. The suspects maintain that the fight had to do with who gets to use the bathroom.
If the police identify that the crime was inspired by hatred, the suspects will be given further charges which might see them spend ten more years in addition to what they should have served. The two suspects are 18-year-old Teonna Monae Brown and a 14-year-old who was not identified by the police because she is a juvenile.
The prosecutors have brought charges of one count of first-degree assault and two counts of second-degree assault against Teonna. The 14-year-old suspect was charged with second-degree assault.
The police are conducting further investigation to determine whether hate crime charges will be brought against the suspects.
