Florida, Oct 5 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A gunman suspected to be armed and probably carrying a bomb was seen outside the library in the University of South Florida campus.

Authorities said an off-campus call was transferred to USF police from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. The caller said that a suspicious man with a gun was seen in front of the university’s library. The USF website also posted an update regarding the armed intruder.

All the students are asked to be safe and secure and hence, to be away from the campus. Text messages were sent to 13,000 employees and 45,000 students to warn them about the emergency situation. Emergency sirens on campus also were activated.

The first suspect, who seemed of African-American origin and dressed in a green and yellow shirt, was arrested by the police. However, there seemed to be one more suspect as students got a text message saying: “White male subject seen in the Cooper Hall area in black tank top, cowboy hat carrying black puppy and a large hunting knife-officers in route.”

USF police have asked the Tampa police’s bomb disposal squad team to look in to the campus regarding the suspicious belongings of the suspect in custody, said USF police Lt. Meg Ross. No one was hurt and no shots were fired, she said.

“We have someone we think may have been involved, but we have to investigate fully,” Ross told CNN.

“We have not looked in his backpack,” she said. “We have the bomb squad on their way to look at that.”
