Oct. 15, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The latest issue of ‘O, The Oprah Magazine’, features an exclusive story on Dylan Klebold, as depicted by his mother Susan Klebold. This is a revelation of sorts as ever since the gruesome murders committed by her son ten years ago, Susan has politely but firmly turned down requests for interviews. She has finally decided to talk about the horror story that revolves around her own son in the essay appropriately titled ‘I will never know why.’

On April 20th, 1999, Dylan and his friend Eric, still students in a Columbian High School, stormed into their school armed with pistols, shotguns and home-made bombs and began firing indiscriminately before turning the guns on themselves. By that time, they had killed twelve students and a teacher and injured twenty three others. A decade after the terrible incident, Susan says that she and her husband did not have a clue that Dylan was capable of doing something as terrible as this. In her article, she says that she was shocked and horrified at what Dylan had done. She even describes the day the incident happened to emphasize that she had noted nothing amiss on that fateful day. Everything was normal, she insists, except that Dylan seemed in a big hurry.

Susan’s article has triggered off a lot of unpleasant and unhappy memories for many Columbian families. Some of the parents involved in the case say that it’s a sad attempt to cover the terrible crime with a coat of sympathy as Dylan had committed suicide. Some even express doubts about Susan’s proclaimed ignorance of Dylan’s murderous and suicidal trait. Some, though, praise her courage.
