Supreme Court Orders ‘Birther’ Orly Taitz Pay $20K Over President’s Birth Certificate
August 17th, 2010 - 11:22 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 17 (THIANDIAN NEWS) Orly Taitz, a California dentist and lawyer who is a leader of the “birther movement” that claims President Barack Obama was not born in the United States of America, but is instead, of Kenyan decent, was ordered by the Supreme Court to pay a twenty thousand dollar fine for filing a frivolous lawsuit.
Orly was given the fine back in 2009, after she had filed a lawsuit in Georgia on the behalf of Army Captain Connie Rhodes, who refused to go to Iraq when given the deployment on the grounds that the Commander in Chief, Barack Obama, was not eligible to be the president of the United States, and therefore the orders were not valid.
But the judge in the case called the lawsuit frivolous, and said that Orly had wasted the court’s time. Judge Clay Land also stated “The Court finds that counsel’s conduct was willful and not merely negligent. It demonstrates bad faith on her part. As an attorney, she is deemed to have known better.”
Clay added: “Counsel’s frivolous and sanctionable conduct wasted the defendant’s time and valuable judicial resources that could have been devoted to legitimate cases pending with the Court.” He also stated that Orly had not followed court rules, and was “ more interested in wasting time with press conference sound bites and speeches.”
Orly had appealed the decision, but was ordered by the Supreme Court to pay the twenty thousand. She says that she will continue the fight, but claims to have access to the money though her supporters and contributions.
