Superintendent of Arlington National Cemetery: ‘6,600 graves misidentified’
July 29th, 2010 - 11:41 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt ( Leave a comment )Washington DC, July 29 (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of the former superintendent’s of the Arlington National Cemetery has confessed that around 6,600 graves have been misidentified in the cemetery. And that is not all, in fact he also accepted ‘full responsibility’ for it.
He also candidly said that his team didn’t do their job properly and with full responsibility. Because of the mix-up the former superintendent – John Metzler also offered his “sincere regrets to the families.”
John was at the helm of the cemetery for almost two decades, till he was forced to put in his papers because of the scandal.
Last month there was an investigation by the Army in the case and they had said that there were around 211 graves that were mixed up. But now the former superintendent has upped the number and said that around 6,600 graves could be mixed up.
Even the Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill said that thousands of graves were unmarked or not marked properly, due to the carelessness of the managers at the cemetery. There was a hearing on Thursday in which the former superintendent and the deputy superintendent testified and accepted responsibility for not doing their job properly.
