Suffolk, Nov. 16, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Suffolk County Community College has reported a raise by about 20% approximately in the enrollment of students this year. The number has significantly increased since the session of last fall. This has been part of an overall increase in the enrollment of students in this session in the Community Colleges. Many of the students are choosing community colleges over the other more expensive and relatively better known ones.
This sudden rise can be partly attributed to the fact that these colleges are cheaper, and therefore are indefinitely more viable option than the other colleges in the face of a global economic downturn that has the entire country in it’s grip. Besides this, the students are also waking up to the fact that these colleges offer the same education as the others, at a much cheaper rate. Moreover, it is far easier to get an admission into those colleges than the others as they pretty much maintain an open door policy. The Suffolk Community College, like many of it’s peers, has extended some of it’s programs and has taken careful and diligent measures to improve the overall standard of education provided.
The spokespersons for the colleges admit that the increase in enrollment is definitely partly due to the recession, but stresses that the uplift in standards has a greater role to play. However, the sudden rush for enrollment has forced these colleges to abandon their open door policy. This is a first, and the colleges admit that it id beyond all expectations. They were compelled to announce a last date for admission and shut the doors on many of the hopefuls as there were no more vacancies.
