DARFUR, SUDAN (BNO NEWS) – A Sudanese rebel leader was dismissed of charges Monday by The International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, Netherlands, the ICC said.

Bahar Idriss Abu Garda, a rebel commander in Darfur, was believed to be linked to the September 29, 2007 attacks against the African Union Mission in Sudan, which is a peace-keeping mission stationed at the Haskanita Military Group Site (MGS Haskanita), in the locality of Umm Kadada, North Darfur.

The Pre-Trial Chamber I of the ICC dropped the initial charges, which accused Abu Garda of being criminally responsible either as a direct or as an indirect co-perpetrator of three war crimes.

The Chamber decided that the accusations of Abu Garda’s participation in the alleged plan to attack MGS Haskanita were not supported by sufficient evidence.
