Stunt pilot dies in Kansas City
August 22nd, 2011 - 7:21 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattKansas City, Aug 22 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A stunt pilot was killed instantly when his plane came flying downwards. The accident happened at the downtown Kansas City air show but the Missouri Department of Aviation reported that no spectator was injured.
This is the first time that a fatal crash has occurred at the Kansas City Aviation Expo Air Show. Stunt pilot Bryan Jensen has been identified as the victim of the accident. Witnesses reported that they saw the plane performing loops in the air but when it got into a downward spiral, the pilot seemed to be struggling with pulling it out. The red biplane then plummeted to the ground with its nose striking the surface first. It instantly burst into flames as the spectators watched in horror.
Kansas City Council member Jan Marcason who happened to be among the spectators told the Kansas City Star that, “It was right in front of the crowd.”
Another witness told the newspaper that, “It was looking cool at first, like he knew what he was doing.”
Shortly after the crash, the spectators at the fair were asked to leave the Wheeler Downtown Airport for the cleanup to take place. The show however continued on Sunday with all the other pilots agreeing to go ahead with it.
The executives of the fair expressed their condolence to the bereaved family but they failed to give any further details on the fallen pilot.
